New Shadow Old Legs

Eleven Rivington is pleased to present a group exhibition that presents five contemporary artists in conversation with works by the American artist Alan Shields (1944 - 2005). The show, titled 'New Shadow Old Legs' - after a piece by Shields (not included in the exhibition) - includes Sarah Crowner, Andrew Gbur, Xylor Jane, Ruth Laskey, Florian Morlat, and Alexander Wolff, and is on view from March 10 - April 10, 2011. In handmade works of dyed, painted, cut, and sewn fabric; woven textiles; embroidery; and paper, the show suggests a dialogue between an emerging generation of artists and the late post-minimalist's use of unconventional materials and chromatically charged and modulated surfaces.
